Margaret Crawford

Who: Margaret Crawford, prostitute; girlfriend of Hunt

First Statement: Aug. 30, 1984

What she said: Crawford has changed her story about the events of Aug. 9 and Aug. 10 many times over the years. The police first found out her connection to Hunt when he volunteered her name as his alibi for where he had been the morning of Aug. 28. That's the day that Murphy excitedly came to the police department, having spotted downtown the same man he said he'd seen the morning of Aug. 10. The next day, when Daulton was questioning Hunt about where he'd been the previous morning, Hunt volunteered he'd been with his girlfriend, Crawford. Daulton tracked down Crawford on Aug. 30. She told Daulton that Hunt and Sammy Mitchell were with her on Aug. 28, and when he asked about Aug. 9 and Aug. 10, she told him they were with her then, too. In fact, she said, she would provide an alibi for the two men for whatever day Daulton asked her about.
